December 2022 Rewind

Did you miss any of my blog posts this month? Don't worry; I'm always here to keep you caught up!

December is all about Christmas, family, and concluding the year. Before getting sucked into the Christmas cheer, I, unfortunately, fell into a spell of seasonal depression. The gloominess tormented me until I could find coping mechanisms that worked for me. I was released from the spell just in time to celebrate my 100th blog post and my first anniversary as a blogger.

One of the things that helped me through the Christmas season whirlwind was binge-watching the pop culture phenomenon RuPaul’s Drag Race. A little-known secret about me is that I’ve always wanted to go to a drag show for my bachelorette party someday. Finally, diving into the world of Drag Race media feels like the background I needed to appreciate this type of performance art.

My December featured artist is Pointless Effortz. He released his latest album, Leftoverz, on 12/22/22 to raving reviews. I was lucky enough to get the inside scoop on the inspiration, conceptualization, and execution behind Leftoverz. Pointless Effortz transformed a stereotypical nihilist view of life into a positive motto that catalyzed his music career.

Despite being sick for most of the month, fighting a touch of COVID-19, and even holding back a cough attack as I write this, I couldn’t help but be enamored by Christmas magic. I reminisced about my Abuelita’s authentic Ecuadorian buñuelos, only to restart the buñuelos war with George, who insists Colombian buñuelos are best. In my sickness, I slowly hated the cold and all the terrible things that came with it, so I wrote a poem to remind me of all the great things winter has to offer. Christmas magic is all about childlike whimsy, and reviewing Disney’s The Santa Clauses delivered just that.

New Year’s is right around the corner, so I finished off the month by making new years resolutions. Everything in that post is true, but my most significant resolution is to stay/get healthy. Two weeks of being sick with various things are beating me up, and I want to build my immune system not to live such a fragile existence. On a more serious note, in 2023, I want to write bigger and better posts for you all to enjoy.
