June 2023 Rewind

Did you miss any of my blog posts this month? Don’t worry; I’m always here to keep you caught up!

June was a reminder of why I started writing in the first place and why I decided to dedicate my life to learning, practicing, and using my talent as a writer.

As a proud ally, I wrote about some of my favorite drag queens for Pride Month. I marveled at the incredible representation I witnessed on television from watching The Ultimatum: Queer Love.

I documented landmark memories I created this month, as the first anniversary of living with my amazing boyfriend and attending my first-ever concert with my best friend. Now, not only will I have pictures and my memories, but years from now, I can read my exact thoughts about these incredible experiences.

My June Featured Artist, Javier Alexander, had one of the most excellent interviews. Javier, a playwright, takes his life experiences traveling and working as an EMT and turns them into relatable stories for his audience to enjoy.

I was inspired by a potentially throw-away movie, Flamin’ Hot. The story was simple and maybe even pretend, but it was outstanding. The representation felt authentic and uplifting in a way that isn’t often seen in stories about Hispanic communities.

I finished the month with a poem I’ve been cultivating for a few months. Invigorated by the ease and the meaning behind all the writing I did this month; I found the confidence necessary to finish a poem entitled, I Am Defiant. Just reciting the poem gives me such courage and confidence that I can’t wait for what next month has in store.
